The original house was a typical suburban house, with pitched tiled roof, brick veneer walls and timber floors.
It had a carport at the front, a partially concealed entry and no easy access between the house and the north facing portion of the site.
The clients engaged Cameron Construction to upgrade the existing house so as to better suit the needs of a growing family.
They wanted an upper floor area for the use of the parents and to increase the downstairs living area. They wanted a new entry way, a garage – workshop, and to be able to take advantage of the rear north facing back yard.
The works at ground floor level consists of extending the family room, and the creation of a new foyer as a link between the house and new garage.
The family room has raked ceilings and glazed doors opening onto a timber deck leading onto the rear yard.
Emphasis has been given to making the new family room as light and bright as possible with the provision of two roof lights.
The garage has a workshop at the rear and has direct access to the house through the new foyer.
The upper floor is accessed by a timber staircase leading off the entry foyer. It consists of a main bedroom (with associated en- suite and walk in robe), and gallery living area. All areas are well sized and have excellent natural light. The bedroom has a balcony which overlooks the rear yard while the gallery has raked ceilings, feature glazing and fireplace.
The additions have taken into account the style of the existing house and upgraded it through the use of rendered external walls and feature glazing.
As a result the once ordinary looking house has now been transformed so as to give a stronger, more modern presentation to the street.
